What’s Changing with Health Insurance in 2025 (And Why You Should Care)

Every year around this time, I get the same calls: “Yvonne, I got a letter from my insurance company and I don’t understand it. Are they raising my rates again?”

Yes, things are changing for 2025. But here’s the plot twist – some changes might actually SAVE you money. Let me break down what’s happening in Palm Beach County without the insurance speak.

The Premium Story (It’s Not as Bad as You Think)

OK, let’s rip off the band-aid: Most plans are going up 3-8%. I know, I know. But wait – there’s good news.

Those tax credits everyone talks about? They got BETTER. I had a Boynton Beach family paying $800/month last year. This year, with the enhanced credits? They’re paying $550. Their premium went up, but their actual cost went down.

Real numbers from real clients:
– Single mom in Delray: Was paying $400, now pays $275
– Couple in Boca: Was paying $1,200, now pays $950
– Self-employed dad in Wellington: Was paying $600, now pays $425

The trick? You have to know how to apply for these credits. That’s where I come in.

Who Can Get Help Now? (More People Than You Think)

The income limits for help went WAY up. Used to be if you made over $50,000 as a single person, tough luck. Now? You can make up to $60,000 and still get help. Family of four? Up to $124,000.

I’m finding money for people who never qualified before. Teachers, police officers, small business owners – folks who always made “too much” for help but couldn’t afford good insurance.

The Network Game Got Better

This is huge for us in Palm Beach County. Insurance companies finally figured out we want to see our local doctors. New plans for 2025 include:

• Better access to Boca Regional (finally!)
– More doctors at Bethesda accepting plans
– JFK Medical Center in more networks
– Cleveland Clinic specialists without the runaround

One client nearly cried when I showed her a plan that includes her cardiologist AND costs less than her current plan.

Medicare Changes (Attention, 65+ Crowd)

Medicare Part B premiums are adjusting (translation: going up a bit), but the Medicare Advantage plans are fighting for your business with crazy extras.

I’m seeing plans with:
– $2,000 dental allowances (that’s like, actual dental work)
– Gym memberships that actually work at nice gyms
– Over-the-counter allowances up to $150/month
– Food delivery after hospital stays

My favorite? A plan that includes transportation to doctors. Perfect for seniors who don’t drive anymore.

Small Business Owners, Listen Up

Remember that tax credit for small businesses offering health insurance? It’s still here, still up to 50% of what you pay, and still criminally underused.

Last month I helped a Lake Worth landscaping company with 8 employees. They got $18,000 back. EIGHTEEN THOUSAND. They’d been eligible for years and never knew.

If you have under 25 employees and pay at least half their premiums, call me. Seriously.

What You Need to Do NOW

If you have marketplace insurance:
Your plan is changing. Maybe a little, maybe a lot. Don’t auto-renew without checking. I can run the numbers in 15 minutes.

If you don’t have insurance:
This might be your year. With the enhanced credits, people who couldn’t afford coverage before are getting solid plans for under $100/month.

If you have employer insurance:
Compare it to what’s available now. Some of my clients are finding better deals on the marketplace. Crazy but true.

Real Stories from 2024 (Why This Matters)

The Restaurant Owner: Saved $400/month by switching from her “grandfathered” plan to a 2024 marketplace plan. Kept all her doctors.

The Retiree Couple: Found a Medicare Advantage plan with their expensive medications covered. Saved $3,600/year.

The Growing Family: Got better maternity coverage AND pediatric dental for less than their old plan.

These aren’t miracles. It’s just knowing what’s available and how to get it.
